State Bank of India (SBI) customers have an important update regarding UPI payments.
If you regularly use UPI for shopping, bills, food, or other daily payments, you may face a temporary disruption on September 4, 2026.
SBI has informed customers that its UPI services will remain temporarily unavailable for 45 minutes due to scheduled maintenance.
Customers are advised to keep an alternative payment option ready during this period.
SBI UPI Services to Stop for 45 Minutes
According to SBI, the scheduled maintenance will take place from 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM on September 4, 2026. This means UPI services may remain unavailable for around 45 minutes.
During this period, customers could face problems while making UPI payments from their SBI accounts through apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and YONO.
The bank said this is a routine maintenance activity and the work may be completed earlier than scheduled. Normal UPI services are expected to resume once the maintenance is completed.
UPI Lite Can Be Used During Downtime
SBI has advised customers to use UPI Lite for small payments during the maintenance period.
UPI Lite allows users to make small-value transactions without entering their UPI PIN every time.
Transactions of up to ₹1,000 can be made through UPI Lite, while the maximum wallet balance can be up to ₹5,000.
Customers who may need to make payments during the maintenance window can keep sufficient money in their UPI Lite balance beforehand.
What Are SBI’s Daily UPI Limits?
SBI customers should also be aware of the bank’s UPI transaction limits. For person-to-person (P2P) payments, customers can make a maximum of 20 transactions per day.
The general daily UPI transaction limit is up to ₹1 lakh.
Higher limits are available for certain categories. Payments related to insurance and capital markets can go up to ₹2 lakh, while transactions for IPOs, tax payments, hospitals
and educational institutions can have a limit of up to ₹5 lakh.
What SBI Customers Should Remember
The UPI disruption is scheduled only for 45 minutes between 12:15 AM and 1:00 AM on September 4.
Customers who do not plan to make payments during this late-night period are unlikely to be affected.
Those who need to make urgent payments during this time can consider using UPI Lite or another available payment method until SBI’s regular UPI services are restored.
