The 444-day deposit offers PNB’s highest stated rates under this revision. Investors should check the bank’s latest deposit terms before booking an FD.
Which Bank Offers the Higher FD Interest Rate?
For the special deposit periods highlighted in the revision, Canara Bank offers up to 6.75% to general customers and 7.25% to senior citizens on its 555-day FD. PNB offers up to 6.60% and 7.10%, respectively, on its 444-day FD.
The highest rate alone should not determine where an investor places their money.
The deposit tenure, maturity date, interest payout frequency and premature withdrawal conditions are also important.
FD Investors Should Check Before Investing
Both banks’ revised rates apply to domestic term deposits below ₹3 crore.
Customers planning to invest should confirm the applicable rate for their chosen tenure, as special FD rates may be available only for specific periods.
Senior citizens should also compare the additional interest benefit offered by each bank.
Before booking a deposit, investors should review premature withdrawal rules and consider whether they may need access to the money before maturity.
FD interest is generally taxable according to the depositor’s applicable income tax slab. Therefore, the effective post-tax return may be lower than the advertised interest rate.
