GIFT Nifty Trading Hours Extended: Investors and traders tracking the Indian stock market will now have an earlier opportunity to monitor market movements, as the NSE International Exchange (NSEIX) has extended its trading window to 23 hours and 30 minutes a day.
Under the revised schedule, the morning session of GIFT Nifty now begins at 5:15 AM IST instead of 6:30 AM.
The new timings came into effect on November 2, 2026, as NSEIX moved towards providing near round-the-clock market access from GIFT City in Gujarat.
The extended schedule is designed to help market participants respond to developments across major international markets.

NSEIX Extends Overall Market Operations to 23.5 Hours
The change is part of NSEIX’s broader decision to extend its overall operating window to 23 hours and 30 minutes daily. The exchange now operates from 3:15 AM IST until 2:45 AM the following day.
This longer window gives international investors and trading participants access to the exchange across Asian, European and American market hours.
It also provides more flexibility to respond to global financial developments without being restricted by conventional Indian market timings.
NSEIX announced that it had completed its first day of operations under the enhanced schedule.
The exchange described the move as an important step towards building a globally accessible marketplace from GIFT City.
According to the exchange, its technology infrastructure allows maintenance and system updates to be completed within three minutes between sessions and in less than 15 minutes at the end of the trading day.
Why the Earlier GIFT Nifty Opening Matters
GIFT Nifty is closely monitored by Indian traders and investors because it can offer an early indication of market sentiment before domestic equity trading begins.
The earlier morning opening gives participants more time to observe developments in international markets, including overnight movements in the United States and activity across Asian markets.
This can help traders assess global cues before the regular Indian stock market session starts at 9:15 AM.
However, GIFT Nifty movements should not be treated as a guaranteed prediction of how the Nifty 50 will perform when domestic trading begins.
The actual opening of Indian markets can also be influenced by domestic news, company announcements, institutional activity and other market-specific factors.
What the Extended Trading Window Means for Investors
The revised schedule strengthens GIFT City’s position as an international financial centre by making NSEIX more accessible to participants operating in different time zones.
For Indian market participants, the key change is the earlier 5:15 AM opening of GIFT Nifty’s morning session.
The second session continues with its existing schedule, while the exchange’s overall operating hours now cover almost the entire day.
Investors should also remember that extended trading hours do not remove market risks.
Price movements during international trading sessions can change before India’s domestic exchanges open, so market indicators should be considered alongside other available information.
