The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced BHIM 3.0, the latest major upgrade to the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app.

This update brings several new features for both users and merchants, making digital payments more convenient and efficient.

New Features in BHIM 3.0

More Language Support: The app now supports over 15 Indian languages, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Better Performance on Slow Internet: Optimized for low-speed networks, ensuring smooth transactions even in areas with weak connectivity.

Expense Management Tools: Users can now manage and split their expenses more easily.

Family Mode & Spend Analytics: The app includes features like family mode, spend tracking, and a built-in task assistant to help users keep track of pending bills and low balances.

Improved Merchant Services: Merchants now get an in-app payment solution that integrates directly with online platforms, eliminating the need for third-party apps.

Rollout Timeline

The update will be released in phases across different platforms and is expected to be available nationwide by next month.

BHIM was originally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 to promote digital payments in India. The country has seen a massive surge in digital transactions.

In the financial year 2024-25, digital payments, including UPI, have already surpassed 18,120 crore transactions, with a total transaction value exceeding ₹2,330 lakh crore.
