Taxpayers have received good news! From now on, any errors related to TDS, interest calculations, or other minor issues in income tax returns will be rectified immediately. This means there will be no more long delays in getting tax refunds.

Earlier, many taxpayers faced problems such as receiving wrong tax demand notices or late refunds due to small mistakes.

These minor issues used to take months to fix because of the lengthy communication between the Assessing Officer (AO) and the Centralized Processing Center (CPC).

CBDT’s New Rules to Speed Up the Process

To resolve these problems, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made the process simpler and faster.

In a notification issued on October 27, 2025, the Commissioner of Income Tax (CPC), Bengaluru, has been given special powers.

Now, the CPC can directly correct calculation or accounting errors that earlier needed approval from the AO.

Previously, if there was an issue such as a TDS or TCS mismatch, an advance tax error, or a wrong interest calculation under Section 244A, taxpayers had to visit the AO’s office multiple times.

The AO would then send the case to the CPC, which again sought clarifications — a process that often took two to six months.

Under the new system, the CPC can now rectify these matters on its own, saving time for both taxpayers and officers.

Types of Errors That Will Be Fixed Quickly

The CPC can now directly correct the following errors:

Wrong calculation of TDS or TCS

Ignoring advance tax or self-assessment tax

Errors in previously issued refunds

Incorrect interest calculations

Discrepancies in tax or refund amounts

If needed, the CPC can also issue a revised demand notice under Section 156.

A Major Relief for Taxpayers

According to experts, this is a big relief for taxpayers.
Corrections that earlier took months will now be completed in just a few days.

This change will help fix both tax demand errors and refund delays much faster.

Overall, this move will strengthen the Income Tax Department’s digital system, reduce the need for physical visits to offices, and make the tax administration more transparent and efficient.
