If you often withdraw cash from ATMs, you need to be more careful now. The State Bank of India (SBI) has updated its rules for ATM transactions, and going beyond the free limit will directly affect your pocket.
Due to the new regulations introduced in February and May 2025, ATM usage has become more expensive. Here’s a simple explanation of what has changed and how it affects SBI account holders.
New ATM Free Limit and Charges from February 2025
SBI implemented new rules for ATM free limits and fees starting February 1, 2025, applying the same limit to all customers.
Under these rules, every customer gets:
5 free transactions per month at SBI ATMs
10 free transactions per month at other bank ATMs
Total: 15 free ATM transactions each month
Customers who maintain an average balance of more than ₹1 lakh get unlimited free transactions at both SBI and non-SBI ATMs.
If you exceed the free limit:
At SBI ATMs: ₹15 + GST per transaction
At other bank ATMs: ₹21 + GST per transaction
Additional Fees You Should Know About
Checking your balance or mini statement at SBI ATMs is free.
At other bank ATMs:
Balance enquiry or mini statement costs ₹10 + GST.
If your ATM transaction fails due to insufficient balance, SBI charges a penalty of ₹20 + GST. This rule is already active.
From May 1, 2025, RBI has increased the ATM interchange fee. After the free limit, customers will have to pay ₹23 per transaction.
