The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is introducing a new feature in the Aadhaar app that will allow users to update their address from home.
This has been a long-requested feature and will remove the need to visit an enrollment center for address changes.
UIDAI announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the update process will use OTP verification and face authentication, making it both secure and convenient.
How the Address Update Feature Will Work
The Aadhaar app will use a two-step verification process to ensure strong security:
OTP Verification – Users will receive a one-time password on their registered or new mobile number to confirm their request.
Face Authentication – After verifying the OTP, users must complete a face scan through the app. UIDAI will digitally match the live facial data with existing Aadhaar records.
This process eliminates the need for physical documents and in-person verification while keeping updates safe.
Step-by-Step Process to Update Aadhaar Address
UIDAI has designed the feature to be simple and user-friendly. Here’s how it will work:
Download the Aadhaar App – Available on Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS).
Enter Aadhaar Number – Open the app, select your preferred language, and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Verify with OTP – Complete verification using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Complete Face Authentication – Perform the mandatory face scan to confirm your identity.
Set Security PIN – Create a six-digit PIN to lock and protect your Aadhaar profile within the app.
Once completed, your address will be updated digitally without the need to visit a center.
This upcoming feature is expected to make Aadhaar updates faster, safer, and more convenient for all users.
