Residents of Delhi will soon be able to pay their property tax using just their Aadhaar card number.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to introduce this new system later this year.

Under this plan, the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) will be linked with the Aadhaar number of property owners.

This move is expected to make property tax payments simpler and faster for both citizens and the civic body.

Approval Received, Implementation Coming Soon

According to MCD officials, the Delhi government has already received approval from the National Informatics Center (NIC).

A meeting with Delhi government officials is scheduled for next week to push for an official notification.

Once the notification is issued, the Municipal Corporation will immediately start implementing the new Aadhaar-linked system.

Power Company Data to Expand Taxpayer Base

The corporation is also working on integrating data from power distribution companies.

This will help create a fresh and accurate database of properties across Delhi.

At present, Delhi has around 13 lakh registered property taxpayers.

With the inclusion of power company records, this number could rise to over 50 lakh properties, significantly widening the property tax base.

Record Property Tax Collection This Year

MCD officials revealed that the corporation has collected ₹2,705 crore in property tax during the 2025–26 financial year so far.

This is the highest collection ever recorded by January.

The corporation has set a target of ₹3,200 crore by March 31 and expects to achieve it within this month.

How Aadhaar Linking Will Benefit Citizens

Once Aadhaar is linked with UPIC, property owners will no longer need to remember or search for their property ID.

They can simply enter their Aadhaar number on the official website mcdonline.nic.in/portal to pay taxes.

This system will apply to both residential and commercial properties, making the process easier for everyone.

Key Benefits of Aadhaar-Based Property Tax System

Citizens can check property tax dues easily using their Aadhaar number on the MCD website.

Property transfer records will be updated quickly once the Aadhaar details of both buyer and seller are linked.

Property verification in the MCD Property Tax Department will become faster and more accurate.

Overall, the process will save time and reduce paperwork for taxpayers.

This new system is expected to bring more transparency, convenience, and efficiency to Delhi’s property tax system.
