As January comes to a close, February is just around the corner. If you have any banking tasks to complete this month, it’s important to know in advance which days banks will be closed.
Visiting a branch without checking the schedule can lead to wasted time and frustration.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official list of bank holidays for February 2026. This list includes weekly off days, holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays,
and additional holidays observed for state-specific festivals. Being aware of these dates helps in planning your financial work efficiently, avoiding last-minute problems.
Nationwide Bank Holidays in February 2026
All public and private sector bank branches across India will remain closed on the following dates:
February 1 (Sunday) – Weekly Off
February 14 (Saturday) – Second Saturday
February 15 (Sunday) – Weekly Off
February 22 (Sunday) – Weekly Off
February 28 (Saturday) – Fourth Saturday
These closures are applicable to banks throughout India, so it’s important to schedule important banking tasks around these dates.
State-Wise Bank Holidays in February 2026
In addition to the nationwide holidays, some states observe extra holidays due to festivals or special occasions:
February 15 – Banks in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh,
and several other states will remain closed for Mahashivratri. In 2026, Mahashivratri falls on a Sunday, so banks will be closed for the weekly holiday.
February 18 – Banks in Sikkim will remain closed for the Tibetan New Year celebration.
February 19 – Banks in Maharashtra will be closed for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.
February 20 – Banks in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram will remain closed for State Foundation Day.
Since some holidays are specific to states or special occasions, it’s advisable for customers to check their local RBI holiday calendar before visiting a bank branch.
Banking Services During Holidays
Even when branches are closed, you can continue most banking tasks through digital channels:
Online and Mobile Banking: Available 24/7 for fund transfers, bill payments, and account management.
UPI Transactions: Instant payments can be made using UPI apps regardless of branch holidays.
ATM Services: Cash withdrawals and balance checks remain available at ATMs.
However, certain services like check clearance, demand drafts, or over-the-counter services require visiting the branch on a working day.
Being aware of both national and state-specific holidays helps you manage banking efficiently and avoid unnecessary delays.
