State Bank of India (SBI) has updated its ATM transaction charges for the first time since February 2025.
This change affects savings and salary account holders who use ATMs of other banks.
However, SBI debit card users at SBI ATMs and Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account holders will not see any change.
These revisions came into effect on December 1, 2025, following an increase in interchange fees that prompted the bank to review charges.
ATM Charges for Savings and Salary Accounts
For ordinary savings accounts (excluding BSBD, KCC, and salary packages), you still get five free transactions per month at other bank ATMs.
After that, the charges are:
Cash withdrawals: ₹23 + GST (up from ₹21 + GST)
Non-financial transactions (balance checks, mini statements): ₹11 + GST (up from ₹10 + GST)
For Salary Package Savings Accounts, unlimited free transactions at other bank ATMs have now been reduced to 10 per month.
After this limit:
Cash withdrawals: ₹23 + GST
Non-financial transactions: ₹11 + GST
This means salary account holders who previously enjoyed unlimited free ATM usage will now need to monitor their transactions to avoid extra charges.
BSBD Accounts and SBI ATM Users
For Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account holders, there is no change.
Service charges for transactions at SBI ATMs and ADWMs remain the same.
Cardless cash withdrawals, such as through YONO Cash, will continue to be free and unlimited at SBI ATMs.
Why This Change Happened
The bank updated charges because interchange fees have increased, which affects the cost of using other banks’ ATMs.
SBI has advised customers who frequently use other banks’ ATMs to be careful, as extra charges apply beyond the free transaction limit.
To avoid extra costs, SBI recommends using digital methods like UPI, the YONO app, or branch transactions.
While the change is small, it is significant for frequent ATM users.
