April is starting with a bang for many! Banks across India will be closed on several days this month.

Apart from Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, banks also observe gazetted holidays.

Here’s a quick guide so you know when your local bank will be closed.

Major Bank Holidays in April

April 1: Banks will be closed in most cities for financial year-end account closing.

This holiday does not apply to Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh.

April 2: Kerala observes a holiday for Maundy Thursday.

April 3: Good Friday will keep banks closed in most parts of the country.

However, this does not apply to Tripura, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir.

April 14: A big holiday for many states including Tripura, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Festivals like Dr.

Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Tamil New Year, Bohag Bihu, Baisakhi, and others are celebrated.

April 15: Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh for Bengali New Year (Navabarsha), Bohag Bihu, Vishu, and Himachal Day.

April 16: Assam observes Bohag Bihu.

April 20: Karnataka will have banks closed for Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya.

April 21: Tripura will observe Garia Puja.

Digital Banking Remains Active

Even when bank branches are closed, digital banking services stay up and running.

You can still:

Transfer funds

Pay bills

Use UPI, mobile banking apps, and ATMs

However, branch-specific services like check clearance, large cash deposits, and demand drafts won’t be available.
