If you have urgent banking tasks this week, delays could cost you.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, the week of December 8 to 14 will see multiple bank closures in several states.

Banking services will be unavailable for four days in some states and at least two days elsewhere due to regular weekends.

This affects all banks, including SBI, PNB, HDFC, and ICICI, so it’s important to plan your transactions accordingly.

Which States Will Have Bank Holidays?

Kerala – December 9: Banks will be closed due to local elections for self-government bodies in cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

Banking will operate normally in other states.

Meghalaya – December 12: Banks will remain closed in Meghalaya on the martyrdom day of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, a significant local holiday honoring the freedom fighter from the Garo community.

Nationwide – December 13 and 14: December 13 is the second Saturday of the month, when all banks are closed nationwide.

The following day, Sunday, December 14, is also a bank holiday across the country.

Summary of Closures:

Kerala & Meghalaya: 4 bank holidays this week

Other states: 2 bank holidays (Saturday and Sunday)

Why You Should Complete Your Banking Early

With these closures, activities like passbook updates, check clearance, demand drafts, or other branch-based services may face delays.

Customers in Kerala and Meghalaya should especially take note of the extended closure period.

To avoid disruptions, it’s best to finish important banking work early in the week, ensuring your transactions are processed before the holidays.
