The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed all banks to move their official websites to the ‘.bank.in’ domain to strengthen cybersecurity and reduce online fraud.

According to an RBI circular, the migration to this new domain must be completed by October 31, 2025, or earlier.

Major banks such as State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Canara Bank have already updated their website addresses to comply with this directive.

The RBI said this move will improve cybersecurity, reduce fraud risks, and increase public confidence in digital banking services.

Smooth Migration by Leading Banks

Other major banks — including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank — have assured customers and stakeholders that their online services will continue without disruption.

They have also confirmed that existing website links will automatically redirect to the new ‘.bank.in’ addresses.

Here are the new URLs of some leading banks:

ICICI Bank: https://www.icici.bank.in/

HDFC Bank: https://www.hdfc.bank.in/

Axis Bank: https://www.axis.bank.in/

Kotak Mahindra Bank: https://www.kotak.bank.in/en/home.html

Punjab National Bank: https://pnb.bank.in/

State Bank of India: https://sbi.bank.in

RBI’s Official Notification and Purpose

In its notification dated April 22, 2025, the RBI announced that the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) will manage the ‘.bank.in’ domain.

IDRBT has been authorized by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to serve as the exclusive registrar.

Banks have been advised to contact sahyog@idrbt.ac.in

to begin the registration process. IDRBT will guide them on applications and migration procedures.

Earlier, in a statement released on February 7, 2025, the RBI explained that this initiative aims to reduce cybersecurity threats, prevent phishing attacks, and increase trust in digital and payment services.

Registrations for the new domain began in April 2025, and guidelines for banks are being issued separately. The RBI also plans to introduce an exclusive ‘fin.in’ domain for non-bank financial entities in the future.

Understanding the ‘.bank.in’ Domain

The ‘.bank.in’ domain is a secure and exclusive internet domain designed specifically for Indian banks. It helps protect customers from digital payment fraud and builds greater trust in online banking platforms.

Who Manages the Domain

The initiative was launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The IDRBT handles domain registration and operations under authorization from NIXI and MeitY.
