The Government of Bihar has launched a special scheme to help poor families get relief from electricity expenses.

Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the government will install free solar panels on the rooftops of eligible households.

This scheme is mainly for BPL (Below Poverty Line) families and people who already have Kutir Jyoti electricity connections.

Once the solar panels are installed, families can easily use basic electrical items such as fans, lights, and mobile chargers without worrying about electricity bills.

The scheme is also linked to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which promotes the use of solar energy and encourages clean power across the country.

Terms and Conditions of the Scheme

To benefit from this scheme, applicants must meet some basic conditions.

The house must have a paved rooftop that is free from shade, so the solar panels can work properly.

Families must also give their consent for installing the panels.

The entire cost of installation will be paid by the government, and there are no hidden charges.

However, the family will be responsible for keeping the panels clean and safe after installation.

The scheme is open to:

Families with BPL cards

Consumers with Kutir Jyoti electricity connections

SC/ST families and economically weaker households living in villages

Residents of both urban and rural areas

Benefits of the Scheme

The biggest benefit of this scheme is that families will get free electricity from solar power, which will reduce their monthly expenses.

It will also reduce dependence on grid electricity, making power supply more reliable.

In addition, solar energy is environment-friendly, which helps protect nature.

Apart from this, the Bihar government is already providing 125 units of free electricity, which further reduces the financial burden on poor families.

Last Date to Apply

Earlier, the last date to apply for this scheme was February 28, but the government has now extended the deadline to March 31, 2026.

In the first phase, the government plans to install 1.5 kW solar panels on the rooftops of 2.5 lakh BPL families across the state at its own expense.

Eligible families should apply as soon as possible to take advantage of this opportunity.
