The Income Tax Department has launched a new and much-needed feature on its e-filing portal.
Taxpayers can now apply for rectification of certain income tax orders completely online.
Earlier, correcting mistakes in tax orders was time-consuming.
It often required physical applications or repeated follow-ups with the Assessing Officer.
The new update removes these hurdles and makes the process quicker and simpler.

What’s New in the Rectification Process?
According to the Income Tax Department, rectification requests related to Transfer Pricing (TP), Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP), and Revision Orders can now be submitted directly through the e-filing portal.
Taxpayers can apply by following these steps:
Log in to the e-filing portal
Go to the Services tab
Select Rectification
Choose Request to AO seeking rectification
This means the entire rectification process can now be completed online, without visiting tax offices.
Why This Update Matters for Taxpayers
Chartered Accountant Suresh Surana called this a major improvement for taxpayers.
He explained that people no longer need to make repeated office visits to correct obvious mistakes in tax orders.
Rectification requests will now go straight to the concerned tax authority.
This saves time, improves transparency, and makes corrections faster and more efficient.
Understanding Revision Orders in Simple Terms
Revision orders are issued by senior income tax officials when an earlier order needs correction.
Section 263 allows the Principal Commissioner or Commissioner to revise an order that is harmful to the tax department.
Section 264 gives the Commissioner the power to revise an order in favour of the taxpayer and grant relief.
These provisions ensure that errors affecting either side can be corrected fairly.
A Big Step Towards Digital and Hassle-Free Tax Services
With this new online facility, the rectification process is now fully digital.
It reduces paperwork, speeds up resolution, and makes tax compliance easier for everyone.
This move is being seen as another strong step towards Digital India and is expected to bring real relief to taxpayers across the country.
