Cyber fraud is rising fast across India. As digital payments grow, so do online scams.

Every day, cases involving fraud worth crores of rupees are being reported.

To tackle this growing threat, the government is now turning to artificial intelligence.

A new AI-powered system called MuleHunter.ai is being rolled out across banks to detect suspicious accounts and stop fraud before it spreads.

What Is MuleHunter.ai?

MuleHunter.ai is an advanced AI tool launched in December 2024 by the Reserve Bank of India through its subsidiary, the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub.

The main goal of this system is to identify “mule accounts.”

A mule account is a bank account used by criminals to move stolen money.

These accounts are often opened using fake details or misused by fraud networks to transfer illegal funds.

MuleHunter.ai studies account activity and flags suspicious behavior early, helping banks act quickly.

Why the Government Wants All Banks to Use It

The government is pushing for wider adoption of this AI tool.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged all banks to implement the system.

Initially, it was introduced in select banks. Now, the aim is to expand it nationwide.

Reports suggest that MuleHunter.ai can identify thousands of suspicious accounts every month.

If all banks adopt it, the impact could be huge.

The idea is simple: stop fraud at the source by detecting mule accounts before large amounts of money are transferred.

How Does MuleHunter.ai Work?

The system is trained using large data sets of banking transactions.

It carefully studies:

Transaction patterns

Account behavior

Frequency and size of transfers

Unusual activity

If an account behaves in a way that matches known fraud patterns, the system immediately flags it.

Banks can then freeze the account or investigate further.

Because the tool was developed by the country’s central bank, it follows strict security and privacy standards.

Being built within the RBI system also allows better monitoring and control.

A Strong Step Toward Safer Banking

As India moves deeper into a digital economy, cybersecurity has become more important than ever.

AI tools like MuleHunter.ai can strengthen the banking system, reduce fraud losses, and build public trust.

If implemented effectively across the country, this system could become one of the strongest defenses against cybercrime in India.
