Certain rules and prices change on the first day of every month, and March is no different. From March 1, 2026, several important changes have come into effect across India.
These changes impact everyone, from common citizens to businesses. They include higher LPG cylinder prices, an increase in aviation fuel prices, SIM-binding rules for messaging apps, and new railway ticket booking rules.
Let’s understand these changes in simple terms.

LPG Cylinder Prices Increased
From March 1, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by about ₹28 to ₹31.
According to the website of Indian Oil Corporation, the new Indane cylinder prices in major cities are:
Delhi: ₹1,768.50
Kolkata: ₹1,875.50
Mumbai: ₹1,720.50
Chennai: ₹1,929
This increase mainly affects hotels, restaurants, and businesses that use commercial LPG cylinders.
Aviation Fuel Prices Also Increased
Oil marketing companies have also raised the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), which is used in aircraft. The price increase from March 1 is:
Delhi: up by ₹5,244.75 → ₹96,638.14 per kilolitre
Kolkata: up by ₹5,141.52 → ₹99,587.14 per kilolitre
Mumbai: up by ₹4,977.24 → ₹90,451.87 per kilolitre
Chennai: up by ₹5,498.50 → ₹1,00,280.49 per kilolitre
Higher ATF prices can increase airline operating costs and may eventually affect airfares.
SIM-Binding Rule for Messaging Apps
From March 1, SIM-binding has started. This means that apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal will only work on the phone that has the SIM card used during registration.
If the registered SIM card is not inserted and active in your mobile, you will not be able to use WhatsApp or other messaging apps on another device or number.
New Railway Ticket Booking App
Indian Railways has introduced a new app called Rail One for booking:
General tickets
Platform tickets
Season tickets
The Railways has discontinued the old UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app from March 1. Users who had money in their UTS wallet can transfer that balance to the new Rail One app.
