If you often travel by train and book tickets at the last minute, there’s good news for you! Starting April 15, 2025, Indian Railways has made important changes to the Tatkal ticket booking system.
These changes aim to make the process fairer for regular passengers and reduce misuse by agents.
The booking times for Tatkal tickets have been updated to increase the chances of getting a confirmed ticket. Agents will no longer be allowed to book tickets between 10 AM and 12 Noon, giving everyday passengers a better chance to book.

Updated Booking Times and Agent Restrictions
The Tatkal booking schedule has been revised:
AC Classes (1A, 2A, 3A, Chair Car) – Booking starts at 11 AM
Non-AC Classes (Sleeper, Second Sitting) – Booking starts at 12 Noon
Earlier, bookings used to begin at 10 AM and 11 AM. This new timing will help reduce congestion and waiting lists.
Additionally, agents are banned from booking Tatkal tickets from 10 AM to 12 Noon, so passengers can now book more easily during this time without competition from agents.
Easier and Faster Booking on IRCTC
The IRCTC website and mobile app have been improved to make booking simpler:
Passenger details will now be pre-filled after login, saving time.
The payment window has been extended from 3 minutes to 5 minutes.
The captcha system has been made easier to use.
A few important rules to remember
Only 4 passengers can travel on one PNR.
No concessions are allowed on Tatkal tickets.
A valid ID card is required during travel.
Last-Minute Travel Now Less Stressful
Thanks to these updates, booking Tatkal tickets is now easier and more transparent. Passengers can now book tickets without needing help from agents, even at the last minute. If you’re planning a sudden trip, just keep these new rules in mind for a smoother experience.
