During the Holi festival, the number of train passengers increases significantly, often exceeding station capacities. Learning from the recent Maha Kumbh experience, the Railways have implemented several measures to manage crowds at stations during Holi.

One key step is the temporary ban on the sale of platform tickets at major stations in the Mumbai division.

Platform Ticket Sale Banned Till March 16

Western Railway has announced that platform ticket sales at select major stations are banned with immediate effect and will continue until March 16, 2025.

This decision aims to ensure passenger safety and smooth movement within station premises.

Stations Affected by the Ban

The temporary halt on platform ticket sales applies to the following key stations in the Mumbai Division:

Mumbai Central

Bandra Terminus

Vapi

Valsad

Udhna

Surat

Special Considerations for Certain Passengers

Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek stated that special provisions have been made for the convenience of certain passengers.

Family members or helpers assisting senior citizens, elderly, women passengers, and Divyang (differently-abled) passengers will be allowed to purchase platform tickets to ensure their smooth travel experience.

Advisory for Passengers

Western Railway has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance, considering these new rules to avoid inconvenience and crowding.

These measures aim to ensure a safer and more convenient travel experience during the busy festival season.
