If you trade in the stock market, you should know about two special holidays this month.
According to the official holiday list of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the market will remain closed on:

Friday, August 15 – Independence Day

Wednesday, August 27 – Ganesh Chaturthi

On these days, all market activities—including equity and equity derivatives—will be completely shut.

Other Market Closures This Month

Apart from these, the regular weekend holidays are: August 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31.
Interestingly, August has fewer trading holidays compared to September and October, which will have more breaks due to festivals like Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, and Diwali.
On Diwali, there will also be a special Muhurat Trading session in the evening for a limited time.

If you invest or trade regularly, it’s wise to plan in advance based on these holidays—especially since the market is currently experiencing high volatility.
