Eight years after introducing its digital banking platform YONO (You Only Need One), State Bank of India (SBI) is set to launch YONO 2.0 on December 15.
The upgraded platform aims to offer a simpler, more intuitive digital experience while blending security, personalisation, and scale.
Currently, YONO has 100 million users, all of whom will be migrated to the new version.
YONO 2.0 is designed to serve up to 200 million customers efficiently, doubling the platform’s capacity.
According to SBI chairman C S Setty, technology allows the bank to acquire new customers at one-tenth the cost of a branch while still providing personalised services.
The platform’s multilingual design also ensures accessibility for India’s diverse population.
New Features for Convenience and Security
YONO 2.0 brings several notable upgrades.
Customers no longer need to have internet banking to use the app—they can directly access mobile banking, making the platform more inclusive.
Security and ease-of-use are central to the upgrade. iOS users will enjoy Face ID login, while Android users will have biometric authentication.
Traditional options like MPIN remain available, giving users multiple secure ways to log in.
“YONO 2.0 is designed to give customers choice, convenience, and confidence,” said Setty.
“From biometric security to multilingual access, we are ensuring that every Indian feels at home in our digital ecosystem.”
A Technological Reinvention
YONO 2.0 is more than just an app upgrade—it represents a complete technological reinvention.
The code for net banking, YONO, and branch banking has been rewritten to ensure uniform product launches and a seamless channel-agnostic experience.
Customers can now move effortlessly between digital and physical banking touchpoints.
The platform also integrates advanced marketing technology to offer personalised and hyper-personalised services based on individual profiles.
Banking experiences will adapt to each customer’s needs, which SBI sees as a game-changing approach for digital financial services.
