According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks across the country will remain closed on 14 days in August 2026, including weekends, national holidays, and regional festivals.

While bank branches will remain shut on these days, online banking services such as UPI, NEFT, RTGS, and internet banking will continue to work normally.

Banks will remain closed on the following weekly holidays:

Sundays: August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30

Are Banks Open Today?

No. July 25, 2026, is the fourth Saturday of the month, so bank branches across India remain closed today.

Will Online Banking Work During Bank Holidays?

Yes. Even when bank branches are closed, most digital banking services remain available.

Customers can continue using:

UPI

NEFT

RTGS

Internet banking

Mobile banking

Debit and credit card services

Online bill payments and fund transfers

Most digital transactions are processed within minutes, allowing customers to transfer money and make payments without visiting a bank branch.

What Services Will Not Be Available?

Although online banking continues to function, some branch-based services will not be available during holidays.

These include:

Cash deposits and withdrawals at bank counters

Cheque-related branch services

Opening or closing accounts at branches

Document verification and in-person banking services

RTGS transactions initiated physically at bank branches

For these services, customers will need to wait until the next working day.

RBI’s Types of Bank Holidays

The RBI classifies bank holidays into three categories:

Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays: These affect branch banking and cheque clearing.

RTGS Holidays: Days when branch-based RTGS services are unavailable.

Bank Closing of Accounts: Usually observed on April 1 for annual account closing.

Final Take

Banks across India will observe 14 holidays in August 2026, including weekends, Independence Day, Onam, Raksha Bandhan, Milad-Un-Nabi and several regional festivals.

While physical branches will remain closed on these dates, online banking services will continue to operate normally.

Checking the holiday calendar in advance can help you avoid unnecessary trips to the bank.
