8th Pay Commission Mumbai Meeting on October 22 and 23
The Commission’s Mumbai visit is part of its nationwide stakeholder consultation process. Central government organisations, institutions, associations
and unions that want to meet the Commission have been asked to submit their appointment requests through the prescribed online process.
The exact venue and detailed schedule for the Mumbai meetings will be announced separately. Organisations seeking an appointment need to complete the process within the specified deadline.
The Commission is collecting demands, suggestions and views from different groups as part of its work on pay, allowances and pension-related matters.
Bengaluru Meeting Scheduled Before Mumbai Visit
Before travelling to Mumbai, the 8th Pay Commission is scheduled to hold consultations in Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026.
Organisations and associations interested in meeting the Commission during its Bengaluru visit were asked to submit their requests by September 18. The Mumbai consultation will follow this round of meetings.
Such meetings are part of the Commission’s broader exercise of interacting with stakeholders across different parts of the country.
8th Pay Commission Changes Consultant Hiring Rules
The Commission has also revised its rules for engaging consultants. Under the updated structure, consultants will be appointed under three categories called Senior Consultant, Consultant and Consultant (Young Professional).
The maximum number of positions in these categories is two, five and 16 respectively. The revised eligibility criteria also specify different experience requirements for each category.
A Senior Consultant requires at least 10 years of relevant experience, while a Consultant needs six years or more. For a Young Professional, the requirement is at least two years of relevant experience.
The maximum age limits are 45 years for Senior Consultants, 40 years for Consultants and 32 years for Young Professionals, with August 1, 2026, specified as the cut-off date.
Commission Reviewing Pay and Pension Matters
The 8th Pay Commission was constituted by the central government on November 3, 2025. It is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai
and has been tasked with reviewing the salaries, allowances and pensions of central government employees and pensioners.
The Commission has been given 18 months to submit its report to the government. Its consultations with employee and pensioner organisations are intended to gather views and recommendations before the report is prepared.
The Commission has also invited professionals with relevant qualifications and experience in areas such as human resources, industrial relations, law, technology and data analysis.
Experience related to salary structures, compensation packages and establishment matters is also relevant to the consultant positions.
The Mumbai meetings will therefore provide another opportunity for eligible organisations to present their views and demands before the Commission.
