The feature will allow hosts to temporarily hide prices when sharing their phones with friends and relatives during group food orders.

The announcement comes ahead of the festive season, when families and friends often gather for meals.

The idea is to make ordering more comfortable for guests who may hesitate to select expensive dishes when someone else is paying.

Zomato Mehmaan Mode: How Will It Work?

The proposed Mehmaan Mode will allow a host to hide food prices before handing their smartphone to guests.

They will be able to browse restaurant menus and add their preferred dishes to the order without seeing the cost of individual items.

Once everyone has selected their food, the host can take the phone back, review the order and complete the payment.

The feature is particularly aimed at situations where a family member or friend invites others for a meal and offers to pay for the entire order.

Hiding prices could help guests choose what they want without feeling uncomfortable about the cost.

However, Zomato has not yet provided a detailed explanation of the activation process or clarified whether the feature will hide only individual item prices or other billing information as well.

Who Suggested the Mehmaan Mode Feature?

The idea was proposed by LinkedIn user Ayushmaan Agarwalla, who suggested introducing a dedicated guest mode on Zomato.

In his post, he explained that people increasingly pass their phones around so friends and family members can choose food for group orders.

However, visible prices can sometimes make guests hesitate before selecting particular dishes.

He suggested that a simple setting to hide prices could make the experience more relaxed, especially during festivals and family gatherings.

Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal responded positively to the suggestion. He thanked Agarwalla and said the company would roll out the feature during the week.

Why Zomato Is Introducing a Guest-Friendly Ordering Option

The proposed feature addresses a familiar social situation.

When someone offers to pay for a group meal, guests may avoid selecting certain dishes after noticing their prices, even when the host has encouraged them to order freely.

Mehmaan Mode is intended to reduce this hesitation by separating the food selection process from price visibility.

It could be useful during Diwali celebrations, family functions, house parties and gatherings with friends.

Hosts would be able to let guests make their selections before taking control of the phone to review the final order.

The feature also reflects how feedback from users on social media can influence changes to digital platforms.

In this case, a suggestion shared on LinkedIn received a direct response from Zomato’s founder.

When Will Zomato Mehmaan Mode Be Available?

Deepinder Goyal indicated that Zomato planned to roll out Mehmaan Mode during the week of October 29, 2026.

However, the company has not publicly explained whether the feature will become available to all users immediately or be introduced gradually.

Details about how users can activate the option, its availability across different app versions and whether hosts can control spending limits have also not been confirmed.

Users should check their updated Zomato app for the feature’s availability. Until the company shares detailed instructions, the exact steps for using Mehmaan Mode remain unclear.

If implemented as described, the feature could make group food ordering more convenient by allowing guests to focus on choosing their preferred dishes while leaving the final bill review and payment to the host.
