The announcement is part of a new set of initiatives aimed at supporting more than 20 lakh drivers across the country.

Uber unveiled these changes during the third edition of its Uber Pragati event on October 29, 2026.

Along with flexible subscription options, the company announced WhatsApp-based onboarding, additional earning opportunities and new safety features.

Uber Driver Subscription Passes Offer 6 Hours to 180 Days

The new Flexible Drive Pass allows drivers to select subscription durations according to their working schedules.

Options range from six hours to 180 days, providing alternatives for both part-time and full-time drivers.

Drivers who work for shorter periods can choose a pass suited to their requirements, while those who use the platform regularly can select longer-duration options.

Uber has not announced a single fixed price for these passes. Subscription charges vary depending on the city and the type of vehicle, so drivers will need to check the available options in their respective locations.

The company says the flexible structure is intended to give drivers more control over how they use the platform and manage their costs.

Drivers Can Join Uber Through WhatsApp

Uber has also introduced Quickstart, a feature that allows prospective drivers to begin the onboarding process through WhatsApp.

The initiative is designed to make joining the platform simpler by allowing applicants to use a familiar messaging service instead of relying entirely on the conventional onboarding process.

Another new feature, called Earn First, Pay Later, will help eligible drivers continue accepting cash trips even after their Uber account balance reaches zero.

The facility comes with an additional credit limit, allowing drivers to continue working within the permitted limit rather than immediately stopping their trips.

Uber has also introduced voice notes in its in-app chat, giving drivers and riders another way to communicate during a journey.

A simplified Driver App brings earnings information, trip details and important updates together for easier access.

Ambulance Assistance and New Safety Features for Drivers

Safety is another major part of Uber’s latest announcement.

The company highlighted its ambulance assistance service, available through its 24-hour Safety Line in partnership with Dial 4242.

According to Uber, the service has been used 25 times in less than four months to help drivers and riders access medical support following accidents.

The company has also introduced Record My Ride, an encrypted video-recording feature designed to help establish what happened during a trip.

Uber said a recording has already helped police clarify a disputed incident involving a driver and a rider.

Another feature, Safety Content Flag, is designed to identify potentially inappropriate language in messages sent by riders. It prompts users to reconsider their messages before sending them.

Drivers receiving inappropriate messages can cancel eligible trips without affecting their cancellation statistics.

A Driver Safety Hub also brings selected safety features, including audio recording and trip-sharing, together in one place.

Uber Adds More Earning Opportunities Beyond Regular Rides

Uber is expanding earning opportunities beyond conventional passenger trips. Bike drivers can use Bike Intercity to accept shorter journeys between neighbouring cities.

The company is also expanding Uber Direct and Uber Parcel, allowing drivers to earn through business deliveries and personal package deliveries within cities.

Car drivers can participate in Uber Pet, which supports rides for passengers travelling with their pets.

The Refer and Earn programme provides another opportunity to receive rewards by bringing new earners onto the platform.

These options are intended to help drivers make use of different services depending on local demand and their vehicle category.

New Uber Features to Roll Out Across India

Uber said several initiatives are already available in selected locations, while a broader rollout is planned.

The availability of individual features may differ depending on the city and service.

The subscription passes, additional earning options and safety improvements form part of the company’s effort to make platform-based driving more flexible.

For drivers, the most important change is the wider choice of subscription durations. However, they should check the prices, eligibility conditions and availability in their city before selecting a pass.
