Blinkit Ambulance Charges for Non-Emergency Trips have been introduced at Rs 2,500, while emergency ambulance services will continue to remain completely free.
The decision was announced by Deepinder Goyal, vice chairman of Eternal, Blinkit’s parent company, on November 5, 2026.
The new pricing policy aims to prevent people from using emergency ambulances for routine hospital visits, medical check-ups and transfers from hospitals to their homes.
According to Goyal, the growing number of such bookings was affecting the availability of fully equipped ambulances for patients facing critical medical situations.
The Rs 2,500 fee will be collected after the non-emergency journey is completed. Emergency transfers, however, will remain free, as they have been since the service was introduced.
Why Blinkit Ambulance Charges for Non-Emergency Trips Were Introduced
Explaining the decision in a post on X, Goyal said Blinkit Ambulance had handled approximately 42,000 cases over the past two years.
These included around 20,000 emergency cases, and the company had not charged users for any of these services.
However, the company noticed an increasing number of bookings for purposes that did not require emergency medical transportation.
These included routine medical check-ups, regular hospital appointments and transfers of patients from hospitals to their homes.
Goyal pointed out that many such journeys could have been completed using regular private transport.
He explained that every time an ambulance is assigned to a non-emergency booking, the vehicle and its trained paramedics remain occupied.
This could prevent the same ambulance from responding quickly when someone experiences a serious medical emergency.
The company believes introducing a fee for routine transfers will discourage unnecessary bookings and help keep emergency vehicles available for patients who genuinely need immediate medical assistance.
Emergency Ambulance Services Will Remain Free
Despite introducing charges for non-emergency journeys, Blinkit has clarified that patients requiring emergency transportation will not have to pay anything.
This distinction is central to the revised pricing structure. People requiring urgent medical assistance can continue using the service without paying the newly introduced Rs 2,500 fee.
Non-emergency transfers, on the other hand, will attract a fixed charge of Rs 2,500, payable after the journey.
According to Goyal, the amount is broadly in line with the charges levied by private ambulance operators.
The decision is intended to ensure that a service designed to provide rapid medical assistance is not increasingly occupied by routine transportation requirements.
Where Will the Rs 2,500 Ambulance Fee Go?
Blinkit has also clarified how the money collected through non-emergency bookings will be used.
According to Goyal, the entire amount collected will go to the Eternal Foundation, which operates the ambulance service. The funds will help the organisation expand its ambulance operations further.
The company wants to strengthen the service while maintaining its ability to respond to genuine emergencies.
Goyal also highlighted that finding trained and empathetic paramedics remains one of the biggest challenges in expanding high-quality ambulance services.
He said the company’s training academy is expanding, but the organisation does not want to compromise on training standards while increasing its workforce.
Blinkit Plans Ambulance Expansion Across Major Cities
Blinkit also has plans to take its ambulance service to more cities across India.
Goyal said the company, along with Eternal CEO Albinder Dhindsa and the team, is committed to bringing Blinkit Ambulance to all major Indian cities over the next two to four years.
However, expanding the service will require more than simply increasing the number of vehicles.
The availability of trained paramedics and the ability to maintain consistent service quality will remain important factors.
The company introduced its 10-minute ambulance service as an initiative to provide quicker access to medical transportation. The service was initially launched in Gurugram in January 2025.
With the latest pricing change, Blinkit is attempting to balance free emergency medical transportation with the growing demand for routine ambulance services.
For users, the key point is that emergency ambulance transfers will continue to be free, while non-emergency journeys will now cost Rs 2,500.
