Bank Holidays November 9-15 will affect customers across several parts of India as banks prepare for Diwali-related celebrations and other regional festivals.
During this period, branches of major lenders, including SBI, HDFC Bank and other public and private sector banks, will remain closed on different dates depending on local holiday schedules.
The week includes Diwali-related holidays, regional celebrations and regular weekend closures. However, banks will not remain shut for six consecutive days across the country.
The actual number of holidays will depend on the city and state in which a branch operates.
Customers planning cash deposits, cheque clearances, document verification or other branch-related work should check their local holiday calendar before visiting.
Bank Holidays November 9-15: Full Schedule
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s November 2026 holiday calendar, banks will observe festival-related closures on November 9, 10 and 11 in selected states and cities.
Here is the date-wise schedule:
November 9, Monday: Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Manipur, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for Diwali, Lakshmi Puja, Govardhan Puja and Vishwakarma Day.
November 10, Tuesday: Banks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim will remain closed for Diwali (Bali Pratipada), Govardhan Puja, Lakshmi Puja and Vikram Samvat New Year celebrations.
November 11, Wednesday: Banks in Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh will remain closed for Lakshmi Puja, Ningol Chakkouba, Bhai Dooj and other regional observances.
November 12, Thursday: No additional festival-related bank holiday is listed in the RBI calendar for this date.
November 13, Friday: Banks in Meghalaya will remain closed for the Wangala Festival.
November 14, Saturday: Banks across India will remain closed because it is the second Saturday of the month.
November 15, Sunday: Banks across the country will remain closed for the regular weekly holiday.
Which Cities Will See Bank Closures?
The holiday schedule will differ across banking centres. Some of the major cities and locations affected include:
November 9: Agartala, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Gangtok, Imphal, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow and Raipur.
November 10: Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Mumbai and Nagpur.
November 11: Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Shimla.
November 13: Shillong.
November 14: All banking centres across India.
November 15: All banking centres across India.
These closures apply to bank branches in the respective locations. SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank and other lenders generally follow the applicable RBI holiday schedule for their branches.
Will UPI, ATM and Internet Banking Work During Holidays?
A bank branch holiday does not mean that all banking services will stop. Customers can continue using several digital banking facilities during the holiday period.
UPI payments, mobile banking applications, internet banking and ATM services are generally available even when physical branches remain closed.
Customers can use these services for routine activities such as checking account balances, transferring money, paying bills and withdrawing cash.
However, certain transactions require physical branch operations. These may include cheque-related services, demand drafts, specific document submissions and other activities that require bank staff assistance.
Customers should therefore complete important branch-dependent work in advance to avoid delays during the festive period.
Check Your Local Bank Holiday Calendar Before Visiting
The November 9-15 holiday schedule includes six dates on which banks will be closed in at least some locations.
However, this does not mean every bank branch across India will remain closed on all six dates.
The Reserve Bank of India publishes separate holiday schedules for different banking centres because regional festivals and local observances vary across states.
Customers should check the holiday list applicable to their city before visiting an SBI, HDFC Bank or any other bank branch.
Planning transactions in advance can help avoid unnecessary trips and delays during the Diwali holiday period.
