November is packed with several bank holidays. Last month, many banks were closed multiple times due to the festive season.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a list of bank holidays in advance, so customers can plan their visits accordingly.

If you’re planning to go to the bank on Wednesday, November 5, you should first check whether banks are open in your city.

Otherwise, you may find the branch closed when you arrive, which can cause inconvenience.

RBI announces bank holidays for different states, and sometimes holidays are declared based on specific requests from state governments.

Why Are Banks Closed on November 5?

The RBI has declared a bank holiday in several cities across India on November 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The day also coincides with the festival of Kartik Purnima, both of which are important celebrations in India.
The Sikh community observes Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti as Prakash Parv, a festival of great spiritual significance.

Cities Where Banks Will Be Closed

Banks will remain closed on Wednesday in major cities including Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhopal, Ranchi, Dehradun, Jammu, Hyderabad,

and Delhi, among others.
These closures are in observance of Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and Kartik Purnima.

RBI’s Role in Declaring Holidays

The Reserve Bank of India issues a detailed bank holiday calendar each year.

This calendar lists all national holidays as well as regional holidays requested by individual states.

Before planning a bank visit, customers are advised to refer to this list to avoid inconvenience.
