The United States has temporarily suspended visa appointments at its embassies and consulates around the world.
The move is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration measures.
According to the US State Department, a global training program is being conducted for staff at embassies and consulates.
Because of this, some visa appointments are being rescheduled. Applicants affected by the change will receive a new appointment date later.
Why Have Visa Appointments Been Rescheduled?
The State Department said the training is meant to help consular officers evaluate visa applications in a more consistent way.
It will also help officials identify applicants who may depend on US government support after entering the country.
However, the department has not shared how long the training will continue or when normal appointment schedules will resume.
Immigration Crackdown Continues
The Trump administration has been tightening immigration rules and increasing deportation efforts.
It has also taken steps to cancel visas, revoke green cards, and reject some applications for various reasons, including concerns related to political activities.
At the same time, some of these policies have faced legal challenges. Recently, a US judge blocked a policy that stopped immigrant visas from being issued to applicants from 75 countries, saying it went beyond the legal authority of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Applicants Will Be Informed About New Dates
According to media reports, several people with immigrant visa interview appointments have received emails saying their interviews have been postponed.
The emails state that the appointments are being rescheduled and that applicants will receive their new interview dates once they are finalized.
