A new convenience has been introduced for passport holders. Passport Verification Records (PVRs) will now be available directly on the DigiLocker platform.
This update has been implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
With this change, people will no longer need any physical documents for passport verification.
MeitY stated that with PVRs now accessible in DigiLocker, citizens can securely access, store, share, and digitally verify their documents without paperwork.
This feature will help speed up contactless and paperless services under the Digital India initiative. The verification records will be stored safely in each user’s DigiLocker account.
How the New System Works
Once the police verification for a passport is completed, the verification record will automatically be transferred to the applicant’s DigiLocker account.
There is no need to make any separate request or submit an application. Users can instantly view the document in the Issued Documents section of the DigiLocker mobile app or web portal.
What is DigiLocker?
DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform where government documents like Aadhaar cards, driving licenses, and more are already available. With the addition of passport verification records, the list of digital documents has grown further.
Having PVRs in digital form is extremely useful when quick verification or official records are required. These digital records can be used for travel planning, employment background checks, or any compliance process.
Since all documents in DigiLocker are issued directly by government systems, there is no chance of alteration.
Users can also share these records digitally with any authorized organization through DigiLocker’s consent-based sharing system. This removes the need for attested photocopies or uploading documents on multiple portals.
