December 2025 is almost over, and if you haven’t completed some important financial tasks yet, time is running out.

Today is December 17, which means you have just 14 days left to avoid fines, penalties, or other problems.

Here are two key tasks you must complete before the end of the month.

File Your Belated Income Tax Return (ITR)

If you haven’t filed your income tax return for financial year 2024-25, the last date to submit it is December 31, 2025.

Filing late will attract a late fee, so postponing can be costly.

Consequences of not filing on time:

No income tax refund: Any refund due may get stuck or lost.

Additional penalties and interest: Late filing increases your tax burden under the Income Tax Act.

Weakened tax record: Delays can affect future loans, visas, and financial planning.

Higher chances of receiving notices: The tax department monitors late filers closely.

To avoid all these issues, it’s best to file your belated ITR well before the deadline.

 Link Your Aadhaar with PAN

If you received your Aadhaar card on or before October 1, 2024, and haven’t linked it to your PAN yet, you must complete the process by December 31, 2025.

Risks of not linking Aadhaar and PAN:

PAN card may become inactive.

Banking and investment activities may get blocked.

Filing ITR may become difficult or impossible.

How to Link PAN and Aadhaar

Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal (incometax.gov.in).

Select “Link Aadhaar” under Quick Links.

Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Pay any applicable fees through e-Pay Tax.

Alternatively, you can link via SMS by sending:

UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar> <10-digit PAN> to 567678 from your registered mobile number.

Completing these two tasks on time will save you from unnecessary penalties and ensure smooth financial transactions in the coming year.
