Why Is Hero Splendor So Popular?

The Hero Splendor is one of the most popular and trusted commuter bikes in India. It was first launched in the 1990s and is still among the best-selling bikes in the country.

  • Price: Starts at ₹74,764 (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹77,382 for the Xtec variant

  • Engine: 97.2cc air-cooled

  • Power: 7.91 bhp

  • Torque: 8.05 Nm

  • Mileage: Around 62 kmpl (user-reported)

Key Features:

  • Analog-digital instrument cluster

  • i3S (Idle Start-Stop) technology

  • Tubeless tyres

  • IBS braking system

The bike weighs 112 kg, has 165 mm ground clearance, and a 9.8-litre fuel tank. It is known for durability, low maintenance, and strong resale value. However, many buyers feel the price is a bit high.

Here are three cheaper bikes that compete directly with Splendor.

1. TVS Radeon – Starting at ₹55,400

TVS Radeon is currently one of the strongest competitors of Splendor. It offers stylish looks, comfort, and modern features at a lower price.

  • Price: Starts at ₹55,400 (ex-showroom)

  • Engine: 109.7cc

  • Power: 8.08 bhp

  • Torque: 8.7 Nm

  • Mileage: 63 kmpl

Features:

  • Digital instrument cluster

  • Average fuel consumption indicator

  • Distance-to-empty

  • Real-time mileage display

  • Service reminder

  • SBT braking system

It has a 10-litre fuel tank and weighs 113 kg. Radeon comes in 8 color options and multiple variants. It also offers extra features like a pillion handle and hooks.

If you want more torque and a slightly modern look at a lower price, Radeon is a good choice. However, TVS service network is slightly smaller compared to Hero.

2. Honda Shine 100 – Starting at ₹63,405

Honda Shine 100 is another close competitor and is around ₹10,000 cheaper than Splendor.

  • Price: Starts at ₹63,405 (ex-showroom)

  • Engine: 98.98cc

  • Power: 7.28 bhp

  • Torque: 8.05 Nm

  • Mileage: 65 kmpl

Features:

  • Digital speedometer

  • Odometer

  • Fuel gauge

  • Low battery indicator

  • Service reminder

  • CBS braking system

  • eSP technology for better mileage

It weighs only 99 kg, making it lighter than Splendor. Ground clearance is 168 mm and fuel tank capacity is 9 litres.

People like this bike for its high mileage and Honda’s reliability. It is a great option for budget-conscious buyers. The design is simple, but riding comfort is good. Honda also has a strong service network.

3. Bajaj Platina 100 – Starting at ₹65,620

Bajaj Platina 100 is another affordable alternative and is around ₹9,000 cheaper than Splendor.

  • Price: ₹65,620 (ex-showroom)

  • Engine: 102cc

  • Power: 7.79 bhp

  • Torque: 8.34 Nm

  • Mileage: 75 kmpl (highest in this segment)

Features:

  • Analog instrument cluster

  • CBS braking system

  • Front USB charging

  • Spring-in-spring rear suspension

It has 200 mm ground clearance, an 11-litre fuel tank, and weighs 117 kg. Platina is often called the “mileage king.” It also offers a 5-year or 75,000 km warranty. Bajaj has a good service network across India.

Which Bike Should You Choose?

All three bikes are strong alternatives to Splendor and cost up to ₹10,000 less.

  • If you want a bike similar to Splendor in looks but cheaper, go for TVS Radeon.

  • If you prefer a lightweight bike with high mileage, Honda Shine 100 is a good option.

  • If mileage is your top priority, Bajaj Platina 100 is the best choice.

Choose the bike based on your budget, mileage needs, and comfort preference.
