Over the last few years, Apple has been steadily expanding its manufacturing operations in India.

Now the results are clearly visible.

According to a recent report, the number of iPhone devices manufactured in India has increased by about 53 percent in the past year.

This means that one out of every four iPhones sold worldwide is now made in India, highlighting the country’s growing role in Apple’s global production network.

Apple’s Plan to Reduce Dependence on China

Media reports suggest that Apple’s main goal is to reduce its dependence on China for manufacturing.

The ongoing US–China trade dispute has been one of the major reasons behind this strategy.

Because of this situation, Apple has been gradually strengthening its manufacturing network in other countries, and India has emerged as a major production hub.

Reports indicate that around 55 million iPhones may be assembled in India in 2025, compared to about 36 million units in 2024.

This shows a significant jump in production within just one year.

Global iPhone Production and India’s Growing Role

Every year, Apple manufactures roughly 220 to 230 million iPhones worldwide.

While China still handles a large portion of the production, the recent tariff issues between the United States and China disrupted shipments from Chinese factories.

Due to this disruption, Apple started shifting some of its manufacturing to alternative locations like India, which helped the company maintain its global supply.

Production Costs Are Higher, But Government Support Helps

Manufacturing iPhones in India is still considered slightly more expensive than in China and Vietnam.

However, many companies continue expanding their operations here.

One major reason is the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme introduced by the Government of India.

This scheme provides incentives to companies that manufacture products locally, helping them manage supply chain and logistics challenges more effectively.

iPhone 17 Series Also Being Assembled in India

Currently, the entire iPhone 17 series, including the Pro and Pro Max models, is being assembled in India.

Several major suppliers are involved in this process, including:

Foxconn

Pegatron

Tata Electronics

These companies are also responsible for producing older models like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, which are sold both in India and international markets.

Apple Planning More Investment in India

The report also mentions that Apple is looking for new partners in India to manufacture important components such as lithium-ion battery cells, phone exteriors, and accessories.

Apart from iPhones, the company is also exploring the possibility of manufacturing other products like AirPods and the Apple Watch in India.

Additionally, Apple may introduce Apple Pay in the Indian market later this year.

New Apple Devices Recently Launched

Recently, Apple also launched several new devices, including a new iPad, the MacBook Pro with M5 chip, and the MacBook Neo.

The MacBook Neo is designed especially for students and users who want to join the Apple ecosystem at a more affordable price.

These launches show that Apple is not only expanding manufacturing but also strengthening its overall presence in the global technology market.
