Key Dates When Banks Will Be ClosedGood News: Banks Open on April 18What Services Will Still Work?Final Tip

Banks in different parts of India may remain closed for up to four days between April 13 and April 19, 2026.

These closures are due to major festivals like Ambedkar Jayanti, Pohela Boishakh, and Bohag Bihu.

Because holidays vary by state, it’s important to plan your bank visits in advance to avoid inconvenience.

Key Dates When Banks Will Be Closed

According to the Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar, here are the important dates:

April 14 (Tuesday): Banks closed in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, and Bengaluru due to multiple festivals

April 15 (Wednesday): Holidays continue in several states, especially in Northeast, East, and South India

April 16 (Thursday): Banks closed in select states due to Bohag Bihu

April 19 (Sunday): Weekly holiday across India

These holidays may differ depending on your location, so checking with your local branch is always a good idea.

Good News: Banks Open on April 18

There is some relief for customers.

Banks will remain open on April 18 (third Saturday).

In India, banks are closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays, so you can use this day to complete your pending work.

What Services Will Still Work?

Even if bank branches are closed, you can still access most services online.

UPI transactions

Net banking

Mobile banking

ATM withdrawals

However, services like cheque clearance, demand drafts, or in-branch assistance will not be available during holidays.

Final Tip

Bank holidays are not the same across all states.

Always check your local holiday list before visiting a branch.

A little planning can save you time and help you avoid last-minute stress.
