If you use the mAadhaar app, here’s an important update.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially started phasing out the mAadhaar app from June 30, 2026.

UIDAI has advised all users to move to the new Aadhaar app, which offers improved security, better privacy features, and a smoother user experience.

Why Is UIDAI Replacing the mAadhaar App?

According to UIDAI, the new Aadhaar app has been designed to make digital identity verification faster, safer, and more privacy-friendly.

The app allows users to carry and share their Aadhaar details securely without exposing unnecessary personal information.

It also supports selective sharing of identity details, helping users share only the information required for a particular service.

New Aadhaar App: Key Features

The new Aadhaar app comes with several upgraded features that make everyday verification easier.

Some of the major features include:

QR code-based identity verification

Optional face authentication

One-click biometric lock and unlock

View Aadhaar authentication history

QR-based contact card for easy information sharing

Manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device under the “One Family – One App” feature

Update your registered mobile number through the app

Additional online update services planned in the future

The app can also be used for services such as hotel check-ins, hospital visitor verification, cinema age verification, and verification of gig workers and service partners.

Better Privacy Protection

One of the biggest improvements in the new Aadhaar app is its focus on privacy.

Instead of sharing your complete Aadhaar details, the app allows you to share only the information needed for a specific purpose through customised QR codes.

UIDAI says this reduces unnecessary data sharing and ensures that Aadhaar numbers are not stored by the organisation verifying your identity.

The feature is designed to support the principles of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.

What Was the mAadhaar App?

The mAadhaar app was UIDAI’s official mobile application that allowed users to access Aadhaar-related services such as downloading Aadhaar, generating a Virtual ID (VID), updating details, and sharing e-KYC information.

It also served as a valid digital identity proof across India for Aadhaar holders.

Do You Need to Transfer Your Data?

No. The old mAadhaar app and the new Aadhaar app do not automatically share data with each other.

This means your profile will not be transferred automatically.

Users must download the new Aadhaar app from the official app store and complete the registration process again.

Once your profile has been successfully created in the new app, you can safely uninstall the mAadhaar app from your device.
