The exact closure schedule depends on the state and the bank holiday calendar.

Customers who need to deposit cash, submit documents, clear banking formalities or complete other work in person should check their local branch schedule before travelling.

Bank Holiday October 24-26: What Customers Should Know

October 24, 2026, falls on the fourth Saturday of the month, when bank branches across India are generally closed. October 25 is Sunday, another regular weekly holiday for banks.

On October 26, some branches are also scheduled to remain closed for regional observances, including Lakshmi Puja, Accession Day and Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday, depending on the location.

This means some customers may face three consecutive days without access to in-person banking services.

However, the October 26 holiday does not apply uniformly across all states, so customers should check the applicable Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar for their banking centre.

Which States May Have Bank Holidays on October 26?

The RBI’s October 2026 holiday calendar lists October 26 closures for selected centres, including Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Tripura, for different regional observances.

The applicable holiday can vary by location and the reason for the closure.

Customers should therefore verify the schedule for their particular branch rather than assume that every bank across the country will remain closed for all three days.

The fourth-Saturday and Sunday closures apply nationwide, while additional festival and regional holidays depend on the RBI’s notified schedule.

Will UPI, ATMs and Online Banking Work?

Even when bank branches are closed, most routine digital banking services are generally available.

Customers can typically use UPI, mobile banking and internet banking to transfer money, pay bills, check account balances and carry out other transactions.

ATMs are also generally available for cash withdrawals, although cash availability may vary from one machine to another.

Customers who need cash over the long weekend may wish to plan ahead.

Some services, however, require bank staff or access to a physical branch. These may include certain document submissions, account-related formalities and other in-person requests.

Such work may need to wait until the branch reopens.

How to Check the RBI Bank Holiday List

Before visiting a branch, customers should confirm the holiday schedule for their city and bank.

The RBI publishes a state- and centre-specific bank holiday calendar, which helps customers identify closures for regional festivals and other notified occasions.

Customers can also check their bank’s official website, mobile app or local branch for information about working days and service availability.

Planning ahead can help avoid unnecessary trips and delays, especially for transactions that cannot be completed through digital channels.

With October 24 and 25 falling on the fourth Saturday and Sunday, respectively, customers should prepare for the weekend closure.

Those in areas observing an additional holiday on October 26 should complete urgent branch-related work beforehand.
