The upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra will have an impact on the Indian stock market.
Due to this, trading will be completely suspended on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
In its latest circular, the National Stock Exchange clarified that it has made a change to an earlier notification. Earlier, January 15 was marked only as a settlement holiday, meaning trading activities were expected to continue.
However, after the revised order, the NSE has now declared a full-day trading holiday. As a result, the stock market will remain entirely closed on this day.
Trading Segments That Will Remain Closed
According to the new notification, there will be no trading activity on both BSE and NSE on January 15, 2026. Several important market segments will be affected by this closure.
The equity market, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives segments will all remain closed throughout the day.
In addition, the commodity derivatives segment will not conduct its morning trading session on this date.
This means investors and traders will not be able to buy or sell shares, derivatives, or currencies on any of these platforms during the holiday.
