LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Rules are important for households planning to claim free cooking gas benefits during Diwali.
Several state governments have announced free LPG cylinder or refill assistance for eligible families, but beneficiaries must meet the conditions of their respective schemes.
For Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries, Aadhaar authentication and correct bank details are particularly important for receiving subsidy payments.
Uttar Pradesh has announced two free LPG cylinder benefits every year for eligible Ujjwala beneficiaries, with one linked to Diwali and the other to Holi.
Other states, including Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa, also have their own LPG assistance schemes.
The eligibility criteria, number of cylinders and payment methods differ from state to state.
Therefore, having an LPG connection alone does not automatically make a household eligible for every free-cylinder scheme.
LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Rules for Free Cylinder Benefits
In Uttar Pradesh, the government has announced a scheme providing two free LPG cylinders annually to eligible PMUY beneficiaries. The first benefit is linked to Diwali, while the second is planned for Holi.
The scheme is expected to cover more than 1.89 crore beneficiaries in the state. The government has announced an outlay of up to Rs 1,500 crore for the initiative.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also explained the subsidy calculation for a domestic LPG cylinder.
According to his statement reported by GoodReturns, a cylinder priced at Rs 983.45 carries a central government subsidy of Rs 335, leaving the beneficiary to initially pay Rs 648.55.
The reported process involves booking a cylinder through the regular LPG distributor and paying the applicable amount.
The benefit is then transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account, subject to the scheme’s conditions and verification.
Beneficiaries should check the latest instructions from their LPG distributor and the state government before booking, as the process and payment timelines may vary.
Which States Are Offering Free LPG Cylinders?
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, several other states have announced assistance for eligible households.
In Delhi, the government has announced two free LPG cylinders annually for ration-card-holding families, linked to Diwali and Holi.
The assistance is also extended to PNG connection holders through cash support, subject to the applicable scheme conditions.
Andhra Pradesh operates the Deepam 2.0 scheme. Under this initiative, women holding eligible white ration cards can receive three free LPG cylinders annually.
Beneficiaries can book the cylinders at intervals of four months.
Uttarakhand provides three free LPG cylinders annually to eligible Antyodaya ration-card families. The benefit is intended to support households covered by the state’s scheme.
Goa has also introduced assistance under its Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Eligible low-income families are entitled to support for three LPG cylinders annually, with assistance of up to Rs 3,000.
These are state-specific benefits. Residents should confirm their eligibility with the relevant state authorities rather than assuming that the same rules apply across India.
Why Is LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Important?
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA), commonly referred to as LPG e-KYC, helps verify the identity of consumers receiving subsidised domestic LPG.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry made biometric Aadhaar authentication an important requirement for eligible subsidised LPG benefits from October 1, 2026.
Consumers who have already completed the authentication do not need to repeat it simply because the rule has taken effect.
The government has also clarified that e-KYC is required for consumers who have not completed authentication.
According to the latest clarification, LPG supply is not being stopped merely because a consumer has not completed e-KYC.
However, subsidy eligibility and payment conditions may be affected until the required authentication is completed.
For PMUY beneficiaries, the government has separately clarified that biometric authentication is required once in a financial year for receiving targeted DBT subsidy benefits after seven refills, covering the eighth and ninth refills.
Beneficiaries should therefore distinguish between receiving an LPG refill and qualifying for a particular subsidy or state-sponsored free-cylinder benefit.
How to Complete LPG Aadhaar E-KYC
Consumers who still need to complete biometric authentication can use several methods.
The first option is to complete the process during LPG cylinder delivery. The delivery person can assist with Aadhaar authentication through the oil marketing company’s mobile application.
The second option is to visit the nearest LPG distributor and request biometric authentication.
Consumers can also use their respective gas company’s official mobile application:
Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app.
Bharatgas customers can use the HelloBPCL app.
HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app.
Consumers should use only official applications and follow the instructions displayed during authentication. They should not share Aadhaar OTPs or banking details with unauthorised individuals.
Check These Details Before Booking a Free LPG Cylinder
Before applying for a free-cylinder benefit, eligible households should verify that their LPG connection is registered under the required category.
For the Uttar Pradesh scheme, the benefit is intended for PMUY beneficiaries, not every household with a regular domestic LPG connection.
Beneficiaries should also check whether Aadhaar authentication has been completed, whether their bank account is correctly linked for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and whether their details match the LPG connection records.
The bank account and authentication requirements are especially important where the state transfers the benefit after the consumer purchases a refill.
Since each state has separate eligibility and implementation rules, consumers should confirm the latest booking procedure, payment requirements and benefit status with their LPG distributor or the relevant government department.
