NHAI FASTag Reward: How to Claim ₹1,000 Which Toilets Qualify for the Reward? NHAI Tightens Inspections at Toll PlazasWhat Travellers Should Remember

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is encouraging commuters to help improve hygiene by submitting photographs of unclean toilet facilities through the Rajmargyatra mobile app.

The initiative, known as the Clean Toilet Picture Challenge, combines public participation with stricter monitoring of facilities along National Highways.

NHAI has extended the scheme until June 30, 2027, giving eligible travellers more time to report cleanliness issues.

NHAI FASTag Reward: How to Claim ₹1,000

Travellers who find an unclean toilet at an eligible toll plaza can submit a report through the latest version of the Rajmargyatra app.

The photograph must be clear, geo-tagged and time-stamped so the location and timing of the complaint can be verified.

Applicants must provide the required details, including their name, location, vehicle registration number and mobile number.

They should follow the complaint submission process in the app and ensure that the report contains accurate information.

After verification, an eligible vehicle registration number can receive a ₹1,000 FASTag recharge.

The reward is credited to the FASTag linked to the vehicle registration number rather than being paid in cash.

Which Toilets Qualify for the Reward?

The scheme applies only to toilet facilities constructed, operated or maintained under NHAI’s jurisdiction.

Toilets at fuel stations, roadside eateries and other public facilities that are not managed by NHAI are excluded.

The reward is subject to verification and the scheme’s eligibility conditions.

Each vehicle registration number can receive the reward only once during the scheme period, and each eligible toilet facility can be considered for a reward only once per day.

If multiple people report the same toilet on the same day, only the first valid submission is eligible for consideration. Travellers should therefore submit genuine, original photographs and avoid duplicate or misleading reports.

NHAI Tightens Inspections at Toll Plazas

Alongside the citizen reporting initiative, NHAI has introduced stricter monitoring of toilet blocks and other public-facing facilities at toll plazas. Officials are required to inspect facilities under their jurisdiction at least once a week.

The inspections cover toilet cleanliness, toll booths, surrounding areas and signboards. Officials must document deficiencies, including through dated photographs uploaded to NHAI’s digital monitoring system.

When a problem is identified, the responsible user fee collection agency can receive a show-cause notice and must rectify the issue within the prescribed time.

The agency is also required to submit a response and photographs showing the corrective action taken.

NHAI has also specified consequences for repeated failures.

If notices for unresolved deficiencies reach or exceed 10% of the total toll plazas operated by an agency, it can be declared a non-performer and become ineligible to participate in specified NHAI bids for 15 days or until the pending deficiencies are corrected.

What Travellers Should Remember

The reward scheme is intended to improve the condition of public toilets along National Highways by making it easier for travellers to report poor maintenance.

It also gives the authority a way to identify problems and hold the responsible agencies accountable.

Before submitting a complaint, commuters should check that the toilet falls under NHAI’s jurisdiction and use the latest version of the Rajmargyatra app.

Clear photographs and correct location details can help the verification process.

The ₹1,000 benefit is a FASTag recharge, not a cash payment, and it is not guaranteed for every complaint. Reports must meet the scheme’s conditions and pass verification before a reward is issued.
