The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made a key change for travelers and traders visiting Nepal.

Indian currency notes of ₹200 and ₹500 denominations can now be carried and used in Nepal.

Earlier, these high-value notes were banned, causing inconvenience for people traveling or doing business across the border.

How Much Currency Can You Carry?

According to the new rules, travelers going from India to Nepal or Bhutan can carry up to ₹25,000 in Indian currency, including ₹200 and ₹500 notes.

The same limit applies when returning from Nepal or Bhutan to India.

This amendment is part of RBI’s effort to strengthen economic and social ties with neighboring countries.

It’s important to note that this facility is only for citizens of Nepal and Bhutan.

Citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh are not eligible for this exemption.

Nepal Rastra Bank Gives the Green Light

Nepal Rastra Bank has also approved this move and set up arrangements to facilitate easier currency exchange.

The new rules will remove previous restrictions, making it simpler for tourists, businessmen, and workers crossing the border to use Indian currency without hassle.

Benefits for Travelers and Traders

Thousands of people cross the India-Nepal border daily for tourism, business, or work.

Earlier, they faced black marketing issues and difficulties in exchanging money.

With the new RBI amendment, these problems are expected to reduce significantly.

This step reflects the strong relationship between India and Nepal and will make economic transactions smoother for citizens of both countries.
