SBI ATM rules have changed from October 1, 2026, with State Bank of India reducing the number of free monthly transactions for Salary Package Account holders using SBI debit cards at other banks’ ATMs and Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs).
The free limit has been reduced from 10 to five transactions.
The revised limit applies to all variants of SBI Salary Package Accounts across all centres.
It covers both financial and non-financial transactions, including cash withdrawals, balance enquiries and mini statements.
SBI ATM Rules Change From October 1
Under the revised SBI ATM rules, eligible Salary Package Account holders can make five free transactions every month at other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs.
The five-transaction limit combines financial and non-financial transactions rather than providing separate limits for each category.
Customers who exceed the monthly free limit will have to pay applicable charges.
For financial transactions such as cash withdrawals, SBI will charge ₹23 plus GST per transaction after the free limit is exhausted.
For non-financial transactions, including balance enquiries and mini statements, the applicable charge after the free limit is ₹11 plus GST per transaction.
Who Will Be Affected by the New SBI ATM Limit
The change specifically affects SBI Salary Package Account holders who use their SBI debit cards at ATMs or ADWMs operated by other banks. It does not apply to every SBI savings account customer.
SBI had earlier reduced the benefit for Salary Package Account holders in December 2025, when the previous unlimited free transactions at other banks’ ATMs were capped at 10 per month.
The latest revision further reduces that allowance to five.
SBI ATM Transactions at SBI Machines
The revised restriction concerns transactions at other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs.
According to the information reported on the revised rules, Salary Package Account holders can continue to make unlimited free transactions at SBI ATMs.
There is also no reported change under this revision to the ATM transaction limits applicable to other regular SBI savings account holders.
Cardless cash withdrawal charges at SBI and other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs also remain unchanged.
How SBI Customers Can Avoid Extra Charges
Salary Package Account holders who frequently use other banks’ ATMs can keep track of their monthly transactions to remain within the five free transactions.
Using SBI ATMs for eligible transactions is another way to avoid the charges applicable after the limit at other banks’ machines.
Customers can also use digital banking services for eligible account-related activities and payments instead of making unnecessary ATM transactions.
The revised SBI ATM rules are part of the bank’s updated service-charge structure effective from October 1, 2026. SBI has listed the revision among its personal banking service-charge updates.
