The electronic document allows eligible residents to return to the United Arab Emirates without waiting for a replacement passport overseas.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) provides the service online, with a stated processing time of around 30 minutes.

The facility is available around the clock and is designed to help Golden Visa holders facing travel emergencies outside the country.

UAE Golden Visa Holders Can Get Free Return Document

The return document is intended for people with a valid UAE Golden Visa residency permit whose passport has been lost or damaged while they are abroad.

Eligible holders can also apply for children under 18, provided the relevant residency requirements are met.

The document is valid for seven days from the date of issuance and can be used for a single entry into the UAE. It cannot be used to travel to another country or transit through another country.

After returning to the UAE, the holder must obtain a replacement passport immediately.

Documents Required for the UAE Return Document

Applicants need to prepare the supporting documents before submitting their request. The official checklist includes:

A copy of the lost or damaged passport.

A police report relating to the passport’s loss or damage.

A recent personal photograph with a white background.

Applicants should ensure that their Golden Visa residency remains valid and that the information provided in the application matches their official records.

How to Apply for the Return Document Online

The application can be submitted through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or its official smart application.

Applicants need to sign in using their UAE PASS digital identity and select the return-document service for Golden Visa holders.

They must then choose the reason for their request, complete the application form and upload the required supporting documents.

Once the application is processed, the electronic return document is sent to the applicant by email.

The ministry lists the service as free of charge, with an estimated completion time of 30 minutes. Actual processing may depend on the application and the information submitted.

UAE Golden Visa Holders Can Access Emergency Support Abroad

The return-document facility forms part of a broader consular support package for Golden Visa holders travelling outside the UAE.

The measures include help during emergencies and crises, coordination with UAE missions abroad and assistance linked to evacuation arrangements when required.

Golden Visa holders can also contact the ministry’s dedicated helpline for enquiries or urgent assistance while overseas.

The number is +971 2 493 1133, and the service is available 24 hours a day.

The facility provides an important option for eligible residents who lose or damage their passports during international travel.

Travellers should keep digital copies of their passport and visa details and report a lost passport to the relevant local authorities so they can prepare the required documents.
