EPFO PF Withdrawal Rules allow eligible members to take advance money from their PF account for specific needs such as medical treatment, children’s education, marriage and housing expenses.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has clarified five circumstances in which PF account holders can withdraw an advance. However, the number of withdrawals allowed depends on the purpose.

EPFO PF Withdrawal Rules for Medical Needs

PF money can be withdrawn for medical treatment if the employee, spouse, children or parents need medical care. According to the EPFO clarification, there is no limit on the number of withdrawals for medical emergencies.

This facility can provide financial support when an employee or family member suddenly needs money for treatment.

PF Withdrawal for Children’s Education

EPF members can also use their PF savings for their children’s education after Class 10. Education-related PF advances can be taken up to 10 times during the entire EPFO membership period.

This allows eligible members to use their PF account for certain higher education expenses when required.

PF Advance for Marriage and Housing

PF advance can also be taken for the marriage of the member’s spouse, son, daughter or sibling. This facility can be used a maximum of five times during the entire career.

For housing needs, EPFO allows advance withdrawals for purchasing a house or plot, constructing a house, repaying a home loan or renovating a house. Housing-related withdrawals can be made up to five times during the PF membership period.

Special Circumstances for PF Withdrawal

PF advances are also allowed in certain special circumstances, including natural calamities and company closures, as notified by the Central Board of Trustees. Such withdrawals are limited to a maximum of two times in a financial year.

According to the latest EPFO guidelines, members who have completed 12 months of EPFO membership can withdraw up to 75% of their total EPF balance as an advance for valid reasons covered under the rules.

The applicable withdrawal limit and number of withdrawals depend on the specific purpose for which the PF advance is being claimed.
