The continuous trading session is scheduled from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM, giving investors a special opportunity to participate in the market during Diwali Laxmi Pujan.

The 70-minute session will mark the beginning of Samvat 2083, the new year in the traditional Hindu calendar.

Muhurat Trading is an annual stock market tradition in which investors place trades during an auspicious period associated with prosperity and new beginnings.

Muhurat Trading 2026 Date and Time

This year’s Muhurat Trading session will take place on November 8, which falls on a Sunday.

Although regular stock market trading is normally closed on Sundays, the exchanges have scheduled a special session for the Diwali occasion.

The main continuous trading window will run from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM. Investors should note that this is a special session, not a regular full trading day, and the exchange’s separate timings apply to different stages of the trading process.

The session will also be significant because it follows the introduction of the Closing Auction Session (CAS).

Investors should check the latest exchange announcements and their broker’s notifications for any additional instructions before placing orders.

 Muhurat Trading 2026 Full Schedule

The announced schedule includes a pre-open session, continuous trading, closing auction procedures and settlement-related activities. The key timings are as follows:

Pre-open session: 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM.

Continuous trading session: 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM.

Closing Auction Session order entry: 3:20 PM to 3:25 PM.

Closing auction order matching: 3:30 PM to 3:35 PM.

Closing process for non-CAS securities: 3:35 PM to 3:50 PM.

The pre-open period allows orders to be entered before continuous trading begins.

During this period, order-entry restrictions apply, including a shift to limit orders after 2:10 PM, followed by order matching and a short buffer before the market opens.

The Closing Auction Session has its own order-entry and matching process.

Investors should follow the relevant exchange and broker instructions because the procedures and permitted order types differ across stages of the session.

Why Is Muhurat Trading Considered Special?

Muhurat Trading is one of the most recognisable traditions in the Indian stock market.

It is held around Diwali Laxmi Pujan and marks the start of a new Samvat year, which many investors associate with financial prosperity and fresh beginnings.

The Bombay Stock Exchange began the tradition in 1957, and the National Stock Exchange adopted it in 1992.

Over the years, investors have participated by making symbolic purchases or beginning investments during the special session.

Some investors use the occasion to buy shares for long-term portfolios, while others participate to observe the tradition.

However, the auspicious timing does not guarantee profits, and stock prices can rise or fall just as they do during regular market sessions.

 Important Things Investors Should Know

Investors should remember that trades executed during Muhurat Trading create settlement obligations.

A purchase must be funded and a sale must meet the applicable delivery requirements, just as with other trading sessions.

Before placing an order, investors should check the stock price, available funds, brokerage charges and the type of order they intend to use.

They should also avoid making investment decisions based solely on festive sentiment or expectations of a market rally.

The session is an opportunity to participate in a long-standing market tradition, but investment decisions should still reflect individual financial goals, risk tolerance and research.

Investors who are unsure about a trade should review the relevant information before committing money.
