Bengaluru Metro Pink Line is set to take a major step towards improving connectivity in south Bengaluru, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate its 7.5-km elevated section on November 13, 2026.
The new stretch will connect Kalena Agrahara with Tavarekere and bring metro services closer to several residential and commercial areas.
The inauguration will take Bengaluru’s operational metro network beyond the 100-km milestone, increasing its total length from 96.1 km to 103.6 km.
Once operational, the new section will also provide an interchange with the existing Yellow Line at Jayadeva Hospital station.
The Pink Line is part of Bengaluru Metro’s Phase 2 expansion and is expected to improve travel options for commuters who regularly use Bannerghatta Road and surrounding areas.
Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: Route and Stations Opening on November 13
The first section scheduled for inauguration covers approximately 7.5 km between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. It includes seven stations:
Kalena Agrahara
Hulimavu
IIMB
JP Nagar 4th Phase
Jayadeva Hospital
Ragigudda
Tavarekere
These stations will provide metro connectivity to important locations in south Bengaluru, including the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore area, Hulimavu and JP Nagar.
The new section has received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), an important step before passenger services can begin.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to travel from Tavarekere to the IIMB-Bilekahalli station as part of the inauguration programme. The final arrangements for the event are being coordinated by the authorities.
Jayadeva Hospital Station to Connect Pink and Yellow Lines
One of the most important features of the new section is the interchange facility at Jayadeva Hospital station.
The interchange will connect the Pink Line with Bengaluru Metro’s existing Yellow Line, which runs between RV Road and Bommasandra.
The Yellow Line serves important locations, including the Electronics City IT corridor.
This connection will make it easier for passengers to switch between the two metro corridors.
People travelling from south Bengaluru will have an additional route to reach areas served by the Yellow Line without depending entirely on road transport.
The interchange is particularly relevant for office-goers and students travelling towards major employment and educational centres.
Full Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Route: Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara
The upcoming elevated section is only one part of the larger Pink Line project.
The complete corridor will cover approximately 21.25 km, connecting Kalena Agrahara in south Bengaluru with Nagawara in the north.
The full route will have 18 stations and include two major sections:
Elevated section: Approximately 7.5 km.
Underground section: Approximately 13.76 km.
The underground stretch will extend the corridor towards north Bengaluru and connect several important locations.
Once completed, the Pink Line is expected to improve connectivity between residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and major destinations across the city.
However, the entire corridor will not become operational with the November 13 inauguration.
The remaining underground section still requires completion of construction and technical works, including signalling and platform screen door integration.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is targeting May 2027 for the opening of the complete Pink Line.
Bengaluru Metro Network to Cross 100-Km Mark
The inauguration will increase Bengaluru’s operational metro network from approximately 96.1 km to 103.6 km.
This will take the city beyond the 100-km milestone and make it India’s second-largest operational metro network after Delhi, based on route length.
The expansion is expected to improve public transport access in south Bengaluru, particularly for people living or working along Bannerghatta Road.
Commuters may get an alternative to road journeys that often face heavy traffic during morning and evening peak hours.
The Pink Line’s connection with the Yellow Line will also expand travel options across the existing metro network.
The development is part of the city’s wider metro expansion plans, with authorities working towards further increasing the network’s operational length in the coming years.
When Will Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Passenger Services Start?
The November 13 event is scheduled for the inauguration of the elevated section. However, the exact start of regular passenger services should be distinguished from the inauguration programme.
The authorities are expected to finalise the commercial service schedule around the opening.
Commuters should check announcements from BMRCL for confirmed operating hours, fares, train frequency and the date on which regular services begin.
For now, the elevated section marks an important milestone for Namma Metro.
The opening will provide a new transport option to south Bengaluru, while the completion of the underground section will eventually establish the full connection between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara.
