The Reserve Bank of India has released the schedule for premature redemption of Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme (SGB) for the period April 2026 to September 2026.
If you invested in SGBs and are planning to exit before full maturity, this calendar is important.
What Is Premature Redemption?
Sovereign Gold Bonds have an 8-year maturity period.
However, investors are allowed to exit early after the fifth year on specific interest payment dates.
The RBI has now listed all the bond tranches that will become eligible for early redemption between April 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026.
This includes multiple series issued between 2018-19 and 2021-22.
Key Redemption Dates You Should Know
Some of the early tranches eligible for redemption include:
2018-19 Series II – Redemption on April 23, 2026
2019-20 Series I – Redemption on June 11, 2026
2020-21 Series I – Redemption on April 28, 2026
2021-22 Series I – Redemption on May 25, 2026
Each tranche has a specific window during which investors must submit their request.
Requests can be submitted through Receiving Offices, NSDL, CDSL, or RBI Retail Direct within the announced “From” and “To” dates.
Missing the submission window could mean waiting until the next eligible date.
Important Reminder for Investors
The RBI has clarified that the announced dates may change in case of unscheduled holidays.
Investors are advised to carefully check:
Their specific bond series
The redemption date
The request submission window
Those who do not wish to redeem early can continue holding the bonds until maturity.
For investors tracking gold prices and planning portfolio adjustments, this redemption calendar provides a timely opportunity to make informed decisions.
