Where Will Banks Be Closed? Will Banking Services Be Affected?More Bank Holidays Coming in AprilFinal Advice for Customers

Many bank customers are confused about whether banks will be open on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The reason behind this confusion is the ongoing assembly elections and by-elections in several states.

Voting is scheduled to take place in states like Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry on this day.

Because of elections, people are checking if banks will remain open or closed.

Where Will Banks Be Closed?

As per reports, local administrations usually declare a holiday in areas where voting takes place.

This helps people participate in elections without any trouble.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks will be closed only in Kerala on April 9.

This is because Kerala is holding a statewide election in a single phase.

In all other states, banks will remain open as usual.

However, it is always better to confirm with your nearest bank branch before visiting.

Will Banking Services Be Affected?

Even if banks are closed in some areas, customers don’t need to worry much.

Essential services will continue without interruption, including:

ATMs

Mobile banking

Internet banking

Also, government offices in Kerala will remain closed on April 9 due to elections.

More Bank Holidays Coming in April

Apart from April 9, there are several other bank holidays this month due to festivals and events.

April 14: Banks will be closed in many states for Ambedkar Jayanti, Baisakhi, Tamil New Year, and Bihu.

April 15: Banks will remain shut in states like Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh due to New Year celebrations and regional festivals.

April 16: Some states will observe holidays for Bihu.

April 20: Banks in Karnataka will be closed for Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya.

April 21: Banks in Tripura will remain closed for Garia Puja.

Final Advice for Customers

If you are planning to visit a bank branch, it is a good idea to check in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

You can also rely on digital banking services for most of your work.
