ICICI Bank Warns Customers About New Parcel Scam
Apart from changing debit card charges, ICICI Bank has also warned customers about a rising online fraud happening in the name of courier and parcel delivery services.
The bank has asked users to stay alert and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
How the Scam Works
In this fraud, people receive an SMS claiming that their parcel could not be delivered because the address is incomplete.
The message contains a fake link asking users to update their address details. Sometimes, scammers even make phone calls and create panic by saying the parcel will be cancelled if details are not updated immediately.
After clicking the link, users are asked to make a small payment of ₹25 or ₹50 using a debit or credit card.
Once the victim enters card details like card number, expiry date, and CVV, the information reaches fraudsters who later misuse it for stealing money.
How to Stay Safe
Do not panic if you receive such messages. Fraudsters often try to create fear and urgency.
Avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links. Courier companies and postal departments usually do not ask for address updates through random SMS links.
If you receive such a message, contact the company directly through its official customer care number to verify the information.
What To Do If You Become a Victim
If you face online fraud, take immediate action:
File a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal
Call the cybercrime helpline number 1930
Contact ICICI Bank customer support at 1800 2662
Customers should never share confidential details like card number, PIN, OTP, or CVV with anyone.
Suspicious SMS, emails, or calls can also be reported on Sanchar Saathi or by emailing ICICI Bank at antiphishing@icicibank.com.
