The 3% DA Hike 2026 has brought festive cheer for central government employees, with the Union Cabinet approving an increase in Dearness Allowance ahead of Diwali.
The revision relates to the July 2026 instalment and comes after months of waiting for an official decision.
The latest increase raises the Dearness Allowance rate from 60% to 63% of basic pay.
The revision is intended to help government employees manage the impact of rising living costs and inflation.
3% DA Hike 2026 Raises Allowance to 63%
The Cabinet’s decision covers the pending July 2026 revision.
Dearness Allowance is calculated as a percentage of an employee’s basic pay and is generally revised twice a year, with changes taking effect from January and July.
The previous revision was approved in April 2026, when DA increased by two percentage points, from 58% to 60%, with effect from January 1, 2026.
With the latest three-percentage-point increase, eligible central government employees will receive DA at 63% of basic pay.
The revision is linked to the government’s established process for adjusting the allowance in response to inflation.
How Much Will Employees Gain From the DA Hike?
The financial benefit will depend on an employee’s basic salary.
Since DA is calculated as a percentage of basic pay, a three-percentage-point increase translates into additional monthly allowance.
For example, an employee with basic pay of Rs 18,000 would receive an additional Rs 540 per month if the DA rate rises from 60% to 63%.
An employee with basic pay of Rs 35,400 would receive an additional Rs 1,062 per month.
These examples show the difference in DA alone and do not represent the employee’s total salary increase.
The final amount credited may depend on the applicable payroll calculations and the payment of arrears.
DA Arrears From July 2026
The revised allowance relates to the period beginning July 1, 2026.
As the decision comes after the start of the revised allowance period, eligible employees may receive arrears for the intervening months, subject to the government’s implementation and payment instructions.
Arrears represent the difference between the allowance payable under the revised rate and the amount already paid at the earlier rate.
The amount will vary according to basic pay and the period covered by the payment.
Employees should check official instructions from the Department of Expenditure and their respective departments for details about the payment schedule and arrears.
What the DA Revision Means for Pensioners
Dearness Allowance is paid to serving central government employees, while pensioners receive a corresponding benefit known as Dearness Relief.
These adjustments are designed to help both groups cope with changes in the cost of living.
Pensioners should refer to the applicable government notification for confirmation of the revised Dearness Relief rate, effective date and arrears arrangements.
For employees, the approved DA increase provides an additional component of monthly pay.
The precise benefit will depend on basic salary, while the timing of arrears will depend on the official implementation process.
