In most cases, people quietly leave and return another day.

But according to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, banks cannot stop customer service completely during lunch breaks.

Banks are expected to ensure uninterrupted service during working hours.

RBI Rules on Lunch Breaks in Banks

The RBI has clearly stated that there is no official lunch break for customers in banks.

Employees can take lunch one by one or in shifts, but at least one counter must remain operational at all times.

This means customers should not be asked to leave just because staff members are having lunch.

If bank employees stop work completely and make customers wait unnecessarily, it may be considered a violation of RBI guidelines.

The main purpose of these rules is to make banking services smoother and more customer-friendly.

What To Do If Bank Staff Refuse Your Work

If a bank employee refuses to do your work without a valid reason, you can take action immediately.

Speak to the Branch Manager

The first step is to directly contact the branch manager.

Every bank branch maintains a complaint register where customers can record their issues.

In many cases, the problem gets solved quickly after the manager intervenes.

Use the Bank’s Complaint System

If the branch does not help, customers can file a complaint through the bank’s official helpline, website, or email support.

Banks also appoint Nodal Officers to handle customer complaints.

Their contact details are usually available on the bank’s official website.

Since these complaints are monitored by higher authorities, banks generally take them seriously.

How To Complain to RBI Banking Ombudsman

If the bank does not resolve your complaint within 30 days, you can approach the RBI Banking Ombudsman.

This system has been created to protect customer rights and ensure fair banking services.

RBI Gives Important Rights to Customers

The RBI has introduced a Charter of Customer Rights for bank customers across India.

These rights include:

Right to timely banking service

Right to clear and transparent information

Right to privacy and protection of personal data

Right to quick grievance redressal

These rules apply to both government and private banks.

If your work is repeatedly delayed or you are asked to return again and again without proper reason, you do not need to remain silent.

Filing a written complaint can help ensure better service and accountability.
